Sarah Asante
Sarah Asante is Scripted Commissioning Editor at multi-channel broadcaster UKTV, a BBC Studios company.
Sarah joined UKTV in April 2021, managing commissions including Meet the Richardson’s, Sneakerhead with Big Zuu and Hugo Chegwin (People Just Do Nothing) as well as Murder They Hope with Johnny Vegas and Sian Gibson and Newark, Newark staring Mat Horne and Morgana Robinson on GOLD. As lead on diverse writer initiatives at UKTV, she commissioned four comedy pilots by diverse new writers, including the UK’s first all disabled sitcom PERFECT.
Sarah started commissioning within the BBC’s comedy team and went on to commission BAFTA winning sketch show FAMALAM and multi award winning pilot Dreaming Whilst Black by Adjani Salmon in addition to short form pilots – Coconut, Fully Blown and Behind the Filter, by Phoebe Walsh (Ted Lasso).
Before joining the BBC in 2015, Sarah spent over a decade working in commissioning teams across specialist factual, drama and comedy entertainment at Fox International Channels, Channel 4, ITV and Travel Channel/the Food Network at Scripps.
Sarah is a former BAFTA TV and Learning committee alum, consultant for BAFTA Elevate, multiple session producer at Edinburgh TV Fest and returning mentor for Wonder Women.
